Fall Double Screenshotscreenshot-photos.google.com-2018.10.17-10-44-41 NH’s Autumn is one of the many reasons I fell in love with this area of the United States. The slightly warm days, cool, crisp temperatures in the evening, and the slow motion fireworks show from all our trees, make this place a dreamscape for more than a month each year. Every year is so different from the last, I don’t understand how anyone could grow bored of this season.

Most of you know I love photography, especially nature photography, and though my own photography skills are at an amateur level, I adore trying to capture some of the fleeting color show, the dance of light and dark, the tug of life and death, happening all around us this time of year. Nothing has shown how balance in the garden makes the best sense than this growing season. We started off dry, with lots of sun. Then switched to damp, even waterlogged, with little sun. As a result, most things have not had the conditions they love to thrive. I’ve had many plants suffer poor blooming and many things have developed blights, fungal outbreaks, or other problems. Many weeds this year too. Too many for my tastes. Here’s what I’ve captured since the solstice. Enjoy the gallery!

These were so much fun for me to do! The two pieces are a continuation of the mystical creatures series I started last year.  It started with a seadragon monoprint and then a mystical seahorse monoprint. Now a unicorn and a winged horse. I still want to paint a griffin, but I’ve also thought about adding the Sphinx, Cerberus, and a hydra to the collection. So many choices!

These free form monoprints are more developed than many of my monoprints. They are typically much more abstract. I’ve gone back and added watercolor, acrylic paint, and oil pastel to enhance form, composition, and color many times, so the original prints aren’t seen, except in the background here and there. Mystical #Myth #Monoprint #Seahorse

I’m in place where a familiar theme begins to emerge in pieces I’m working on. It started with the seadragon monoprint and now has manifested in this acrylic monoprint of a mystical seahorse. I’m thinking of creating a unicorn, winged horse, and griffin. We’ll see where that goes; I’m having so much fun making these I can hardly wait to start the next one!
