#Digital #Collections from The Metropolitan #Museum of Art Libraries

Excerpt about the collections:

The Thomas J. Watson Library is a world-renowned research collection with over 900,000 volumes. It is The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s central research library, and its mission is to support the research activities of the Museum staff; in addition, it serves an international community of scholars. Holdings reflect the Museum’s encyclopedic collections, with emphasis on European and American art, architecture, and decorative arts, ancient Near Eastern, Egyptian, Greek and Roman, Asian, and Islamic art, as well as an extensive collection of clippings and other ephemera relating to the Museum’s history.

The primary mission of the Watson Library Digitization Initiative is to expand access to the Library’s rare and unique materials by developing, supporting, and promoting a distinctive digital collection of these items.

The initiative will target materials that fall outside the parameters of other major digitization efforts, such as Google Books or the Internet Archive, and make them accessible to support the scholarly endeavors of Metropolitan Museum of Art staff and an international community of researchers.

Arresting, Alluring #Art #FarmingtonNH

Earlier this month Farmington High School held their annual Student Spring Art Show for the year. Students were at the Farmington Recreation Center with their artwork for two afternoons. Some were working on pieces while everyone was taking everything in and others were there to answer questions. Every time we go to the show we are so inspired by the talent and creativity of the students. The event is one not to miss each year. Enjoy the photos!

#Dazzling #Digital #Art #Archiving

Being in the digital realm is now standard for any institution, big or small. Sharing online and adding to the collective is part of life. It has drawbacks, like anything, but has many more positive aspects. It can bring us closer, can allow us to transcend location, and physical limitations and minimizes some financial hurdles. Digital collections allow us to learn from anywhere about anything that has been added. Most museums, libraries, and historical societies are bringing there digital collections to the forefront and many have started to make things they digitize freely available for anyone to peruse, read, download, and sometimes reuse those resources. Below I’ve added some of  the great digital collections I’ve come across.

Save The Date #Craft #Fair Nov 19th 2017

The Farmington Woman’s Club Craft and Pie Fair will be at Henry Wilson Memorial School, Farmington, NH on Sunday, November 19th this year. This is this their sixth year!

Approximately 50 vendors will be offering handmade products, in addition to crafts they will have a variety of homemade holiday pies for sale. They will have numerous items at their raffle table, a gift wrapping station.  Proceeds will benefit their Community Service and Scholarship Fund. The event starts at 9am, and from experience I know if you want one of the delicious pies, and believe me you do, you need to come early in the day!

I’m always impressed with their fair and how many people it brings to Farmington. I’ll have a double booth this time. I’ll be selling some of the Happiness Tree Decor items; trees, topiaries, baskets, and cornucopia for fall I’ll also have some of my holiday wreathes & swags. Most of the space will be for my paintings, collage work, monoprints, and some of my photography. Please come down that day and support local artists and craftspeople.

Go Back In Time- At The #Museum Of #Farmington #History

2014-01-26 15.08.20

This post contains the online collection and archive information for The Museum Of Farmington History.  I am the curator there as many of you know. Right now the online museum has a small representation of what we have available in the full collection, but as time goes on, many more items are being added at regular intervals. We have thousands of items to put in, so it will take quite some time. It will also take additional time to build exhibits and weave together the stories from people in town. Amazing Posters Honoring @NASA #Voyager Probes

voyager_disco_poster

When I was six, NASA launched two of the most important spacecraft in their history, the Voyager probe 1 & 2. That’s a long time to be out exploring and sending back data. It’s the 40th anniversary of their launch and NASA has put out a few of promo posters. There are also two info graphics about the Voyager mission that may be of interest. Enjoy!
