I started making the crystalline papers for this collage in summer. The papers are a mix of acrylic, liquid acrylics, watercolor, ink, and metallic and iridescent acrylic. I started out with a base coat of metallic gold acrylic on the canvas, then a layer of liquid acrylics over that. Then I started placement of collage pieces. Once I had those placed I bonded them to the canvas with gel acrylic. I then used iridescent oil pastel for creating texture in the open spaces in the sky and growing area. The last bit of color was added to the edges of some of the elements with puff paint. The last step was to seal it with a medium varnish.

As always, it was difficult to capture the crystalline paper in photos. Much of the depth is lost in pictures. It has such a glossy, reflective surface it took several tries to capture each portion. The colors are so vivid and seem to glow with light, from behind; it reminds me of stained glass, which is why I love them so.
