The opening photo is a rain drenched day during a downpour. It was beautiful! The garden isn’t even half grown yet, and I haven’t even finished pulling everything together in the garden by the time that photo was taken, and it just takes my breath away. It’s why I garden. That photo whispers safe, and home, and happy.
Lots of new things to see this year. New plantings, new flower beds, new flowers, and new foodstuffs.
The gallery slideshow above covers early spring just after the threat of frost has passed. pansies, early bulb plants, annuals, our flowering honeysuckle, the purple, early blooming, clematis, and the front fern garden. The last picture is of the three everblooming azaleas we planted this year. One has pink flowers, one apricot, and the last has purple blooms. I chose to plant them in the side yard up front.
This set starts with the tall Sweet William in the side yard and a couple of photos of the front side yard facing into the property from the front street. Then we move into the enclosed backyard. After that are the plantings by the drive in the back of the property. Next year I’m going to cover this hill, by the drive, in Nasturtium.
This slideshow has photos of the foodstuff plants. Squash, zucchini, tomato, and potatoes. Once again we had so many squash and zucchini, I had to constantly give them away. Potato yield was down a bit this year. Stan had still been growing tomatoes in NH still, but I started growing them here in PA. Cucumbers I had massive problems starting. Something kept eating them when I put them out! I grew all these from seeds. We grow the potatoes from eyes.
It was the year to start the three raised beds by the back house on the property. They are the same size as the ones in our fenced backyard. The slideshow is from planting to about mid growth. Wait until you see the photos with everything full grown! two are for annuals and the third is for perennials. The annual/ biennial flowers are Sweet William, tall Vinca, and Celosia. The perennial raised bed has tall Phlox, Korean Bell Flower, Iris, Creeping Phlox, and Candytuft. All we brought from NH.
The first image in this et is a bird nest that was in the Forsythia bush before Stan trimmed it. The rest are photos of things that we brought from NH. Tall phlox, Cleome, and all my Daylilies. The leaf at the end is from one of my leopard plants. Pat gave them to me when she was dividing hers in NH and I brought them here. I just love their leaves! The shape, the veins, the color, and the way light passes through them is magnificent!
This slideshow is all things I grew from seed. Various Marigolds, Nasturtium, Cleome, lettuce, Morning Glories, and Sweet William.
This set starts off with the Spiderwort I brought from NH. The clump has doubled in size already! The pink mid season Clematis is next. Pink yarrow is next. It was planted by Gertie long ago. Spirea, Hosta, a Boxwood we transplanted from NH, and finally a pencil Rocket Bush we bought to be planted out front. It has beautiful foliage!
A slideshow of various flowers and plantings troughout the garden.
Close-up photos of some of my favorite flowers in the garden.
Additional lose-up photos of some of my favorite flowers in the garden.
And finally, below, the backyard garden at peak! The Nasturtium covering the raised bed closest to the camera are two plants! I saved a couple dozen photos of this period for my personal update post coming next. I hope you enjoyed the tour!
