Edward Hopper is a favorite of mine. His work tends to evoke emotions other artists tend to stay away from. Isolation, loneliness, evasion, apathy, come forward in many of his works and never go too far, instead feeling like a refreshing reminder of what it is like to be human much of the time. I love his choices of color and his subtle command of light and shadow draw you into his paintings.
Oribiz created an ad campaign by animating some of his work, including his most famous painting, “Nighthawks.” Many people don’t like the treatment; I love some of them and hate others.
